Sunday Mass Times Changed
Both Sunday Mass times have changed. First mass starts at 10:15am and the second mass is at 12:15pm.
We are very aware that the children in 3rd class who were originally scheduled to make their First Penance and Communion last summer have had their ceremonies rescheduled a number of times already and so our priority is to schedule theirs first in July.
We have dates in place for the 3rd class children only – children currently in 2nd class will be scheduled later in the summer. To protect the privacy of the Communion children in the parish we are not publishing a list with all the children’s names.
You can click on the link below to go to our search form where you can enter your child’s last name and the name of their school to find the date and time for their First Communion ceremony.
Some of you may already have heard that after 9 years serving in our parish our dear Deacon Joe has been appointed to Maynooth parish. He has dedicated so much time and care to our parish and touched countless lives from the happy occasions of Baptisms and Weddings to the tougher times of sickness and Funerals. We have been blessed to have him in our parish and know that the people in Maynooth will undoubtedly treasure him too. Please continue to keep Deacon Joe (and all our clergy) in your prayers as he starts down this new path the Lord has laid out for him.
In his farewell speech at mass on Saturday evening Deacon Joe as ever said it best and he finished with quoting these lines from the song “Thank you for the Music” by ABBA.
I’m nothing special, in fact I’m a bit of a bore
If I tell a joke, you’ve probably heard it before
But I have a talent, a wonderful thing
‘Cause everyone listens when I start to sing
I’m so grateful and proud
All I want is to sing it out loud
So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I’m singing
Thanks for all the joy they’re bringing
Who can live without it? I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance, what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me
Deacon Joe, thank you from all of us in Lucan South Parish. May our good Lord, reward, bless and guide you today and always. The history of Divine Mercy Parish Lucan South will not be complete without your name being included.
We know that parents and guardians are looking to know dates for the celebration of First Confessions, Communions and Confirmations. The current advice is that Sacrament celebrations should NOT take place in May or June. We have however been given the green light to start making arrangements for these celebrations to take place from July.
We have children who were originally scheduled to make their First Penance and Communion last summer who have had their ceremonies rescheduled a number of times already and so our priority will be to schedule theirs first in July.
After that we will look towards scheduling the ceremonies for the current 6th class Confirmation children and then 2nd class First Communion children.
With all that has happened in the last year we want to be in a position to make sure that we follow the public health advice. We also want to try to ensure that planned dates we give can go ahead so we don’t end up repeatedly having to reschedule ceremonies as happened last year.
As the ceremonies will most likely occur when schools are closed for the summer break we need families to register their correct contact information with us in advance so we have a way of getting in touch with you.
If your child is in 2nd or 6th class please fill out the registration forms below.
We have the details of the 3rd class children from last year.
Stewards: Please consider helping us on the Steward team as with people’s situations ever changing and the coming of the summer holidays we will need more people to cover all the masses. You can get in touch with our online contact form or approach any of the stewards after mass. Training will be provided.
Sanitising after mass: All the pews need to be sprayed and wiped down after mass and since many hands make like work please consider staying after mass and picking up gloves, spray bottle and cloth from the table in the porch and help the team get the Church ready for the next mass. With a few hands on deck it only takes a few minutes but is most appreciated.
There is now a newly formed gardening team of volunteers in Divine Mercy who have been hard at work in mixed weather conditions brightening up the Church grounds and providing flowers for the altar. There is always a welcome for everyone and plenty of laughter and jokes as well as cups of tea/coffee. As with all the Church groups they are always looking for more people to help out so if you want to pitch in get in touch with the parish office and they will put you in touch or turn up at their next meeting.
We shall return at 10.30am on Saturday the 12th of June next for anyone that are available. All are welcome!
Sincere thanks to all who contribute financially to the Parish. We are very grateful to you for your loyal support.
We now have a DONATE button on the right of our Website where you can make a donation to the Parish or the Diocese. We would ask anyone is able to, to consider making a donation, as the Parish income is at an all-time low. Thank you so much for your generosity in these difficult times.
Under our Welcome menu you will find links for the Daily Mass Reading which updates every day as well as Sunday Mass Reading for the following Sunday’s mass. It is a great way to be able to read along during mass if you so wish or take time to reflect on the passages during the week and see what message they have for you. One quick note is that if it is a Sunday and you want to see the Gospel for today then click on the Daily Mass Reading link as the Sunday listing will be for the following week.
