Farewell to our dear Deacon Joe

Farewell to our dear Deacon Joe

Some of you may already have heard that after 9 years serving in our parish our dear Deacon Joe has been appointed to Maynooth parish. He has dedicated so much time and care to our parish and touched countless lives from the happy occasions of Baptisms and Weddings to the tougher times of sickness and Funerals. We have been blessed to have him in our parish and know that the people in Maynooth will undoubtedly treasure him too. Please continue to keep Deacon Joe (and all our clergy) in your prayers as he starts down this new path the Lord has laid out for him.

In his farewell speech at mass on Saturday evening Deacon Joe as ever said it best and he finished with quoting these lines from the song “Thank you for the Music” by ABBA.

I’m nothing special, in fact I’m a bit of a bore
If I tell a joke, you’ve probably heard it before
But I have a talent, a wonderful thing
‘Cause everyone listens when I start to sing
I’m so grateful and proud
All I want is to sing it out loud

So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I’m singing
Thanks for all the joy they’re bringing
Who can live without it? I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance, what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me

Deacon Joe, thank you from all of us in Lucan South Parish. May our good Lord, reward, bless and guide you today and always. The history of Divine Mercy Parish Lucan South will not be complete without your name being included.
